Gibbons-Johnson joins school board

The Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Patricia Gibbons-Johnson to fill the board vacancy for Trustee Area 1 in Truckee.

Gibbons-Johnson fills the seat vacated for former boardmember Doug Hamilton, who moved out of the area in the spring.

Gibbons-Johnson has more than 30 years experience in education and business as a former resource specialist, reading specialist, counselor, teacher and student records specialist.

She was also a business owner and worked as a consultant and marketing manager.

“She is knowledgeable already about district and public school governance and has come a long way already in being able to identify the issues,” said TTUSD Superintendent Pat Gemma. “She is retired up here and has been an educator. She had been very involved in the school and was very active in the passage of Measure C.”

Earlier applicant

Gemma said Gibbons-Johnson also applied to fill the same seat to which Doug Hamilton was appointed last year.

“That’s when I first got to know her,” Gemma said. “Even though she did not get the appointment, she continued to work in the district’s interest.”

Gibbons-Johnson was not available for an interview this week because she was out of town.

The appointment will be effective in less than 30 days unless a petition calling for a special election, containing a sufficient number of signatures, is filed in the office of the County Superintendent of Schools.
