GM’s Corner: A great summer of successes in Incline Village
Thanks to all of you who attended our 3rd annual Snowflake Lodge Community BBQ on Sunday, Aug. 27.
More than over 300 of you enjoyed lunch, good company, and the best view in Tahoe! The event wrapped up a great summer of successes at Incline Village General Improvement District.
Despite a late spring, and a surprise snowstorm in mid-June, both golf courses have been in high demand for the past three months.
Since the beginning of June, rounds are up, revenue is up and expenses are in line with budget for both courses.
The course conditions have improved throughout the summer and Jeff Clouthier and his maintenance team at the Champ Course were recognized for Environmental Excellence, as they retained the designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” from Audubon International. Congratulations, team.
We also have received rave reviews from out customers including the one below which was posted on Golf Advisor:
“We have often played at this course over the years and this year was the best ever. The course is beautiful and challenging for all levels. The staff (is) incredibly friendly and accommodating. They kept the pace of play going without being irritating. They definitely wanted to make sure that golfers enjoyed their day and we did. I would highly recommend this course. Thank you to the staff for making our visit to Incline the best we have had in 18 years!”
It has also been another busy summer at our beaches. Despite smaller beaches, we were able to accommodate the 4th of July rush with minimal service issues. The hot temperatures drew larger than usual crowds on many days, but our beach staff met the challenge.
The recreation center has been celebrating its 25th anniversary all summer. The summer of celebration started out with a float in the Red, White and Tahoe Blue Parade; free access on the 25th of every month through November; and a Zumba Party and Children’s Ice Cream Social on Friday, Aug. 25.
For those of you around in the fall, we’ve got more great 25th anniversary events planned at the rec center between now and the opening of ski season. The next event is a rec center member appreciation barbeque on Sept. 8.
More details on all the activities are available on our 25th anniversary page: https://www.yourtahoeplace.com/events/rec-center-25th-anniversary-events. The anniversary events culminate on the center’s birthday, Dec. 15, with special member treats all day long.
Summer is also the season when we wrap up another budget year. Led by a great season at Diamond Peak, our pre-audit overall district budget revenue exceeded our original budget by more than $4 million, and net operating sources also exceeded the original budget by more than $4 million to the good. All major fund budgets (general, utility, community services, beach) exceeded their originally budgeted Net Operating Sources.
Final numbers will be included in our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (C.A.F.R.). Speaking of the CAFR, last year’s received recognition this summer.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) released its announcement that the district has received the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting for the 2016 CAFR. As noted in the release, “its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.”
Kudos to all of our staff across the District for another great summer of success and a huge thanks to all of our stakeholders as we love serving you at your venues!
