Governor signs bill keeping supporting Sierra facility
Last week, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill that allows the Eastern Plumas Health Care District to continue operating a skilled nursing facility in Sierra County.
The bill by Assemblyman Rick Keene passed both houses of the state Legislature with unanimous, bipartisan support. Without Assembly Bill 1174, the Sierra Valley District Hospital in Portola would have been forced to relocate 39 frail and elderly residents to facilities across the state by the end of the year, Keene noted in a news release.
“I am very encouraged the governor signed this bill,” Keene said. “It is critically important to the residents of the Sierra Valley nursing facility and their friends and family, this will mean a lot to them.”
