Grammy Awards had plenty of connections to Lake Tahoe

The Beach Boys are back.

The legendary rock and#8216;nand#8217; roll band will perform July 15 at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys as part of the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series. Tickets go on sale March 9 and range in price from $49.50 to $125.50.

Original member Mike Love is a resident of Incline Village.

The Beach Boys, which performed Feb. 12 at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, begin a 40-city tour in April. The band plays April 27 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and June 10 at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Harrahand#8217;s-Harveys last week also announced Chicago and the Doobie Brothers will play July 13. Other summer concerts include Maroon 5 on July 21 and Brad Paisley and the Band Perry on July 28.

Whitney Houstonand#8217;s death cast a somber mood at the 54th Grammy Awards. Tahoe residents recall Houstonand#8217;s movie debut was 1992and#8217;s and#8220;The Bodyguard,and#8221; much of which was filmed at Fallen Leaf Lake.

Diagnosed with Alzheimerand#8217;s desease, Glen Cambell had an inspiring performance Sunday, singing his hit song and#8220;Like a Rinestone Cowboy!and#8221; The 75-year-old received a Lifetime Achievment Award at the Grammys.

Campbelland#8217;s final Tahoe performance was April 25, 2009 at Harrahand#8217;s Lake Tahoe. and#8220;To play in Tahoe was just great,and#8221; Campbell told Lake Tahoe Action. and#8220;But itand#8217;s cold up there in the winter. It was so cold I saw a chicken with a capon.and#8221;

Hereand#8217;s a piece of trivia: Early in his career, Campbell played bass in the Beach Boys.

The amount of Grammy Awards were reduced this year, and there was only one for blues music.

Singer Diunna Greenleaf said there should be six blues categories. and#8220;Blues is the music that is the mother of the rest of modern American music,and#8221; she told Lake Tahoe Action. and#8220;Itand#8217;s like they threw mama out into a dump.and#8221;

Reno singer Whitney Myerand#8217;s Blind Audition on NBCand#8217;s and#8220;The Voice,and#8221; has yet to be aired. We donand#8217;t have inside information but are predicting her performance will be aired Monday and she will be selected to advance in the competition.
