Grand opening at Northstar

Staff Reports

Northstar-at-Tahoe celebrated the official grand re-opening of its new Summit Deck and Grille with live music, a ribbon cutting and samples from the restaurant’s menu Jan. 11.

The old Summit Deck and Grille was destroyed by an electrical fire in last winter.

The fire began at 3:51 a.m. on Feb. 26, 1999. According to fire officials, the limited amount of water available and the location of the fire within the wall and floor of the building made it impossible for Northstar Fire to save the original building.

The resort continued providing food service at a temporary facility, the “Scorched Pine Cafe,” located next to the remains of the old structure.

Workers completed the construction of the new restaurant this fall.

“I would like to recognize the level of dedication and commitment demonstrated by Northstar employees who made this reconstruction happen in less than one year,” Northstar General Manager Tim Silva said. “Thanks and gratitude go to all who looked destruction in the face and moved forward without missing a beat.”

The new Summit Deck and Grille is similar to the previous building, with one exception – indoor seating to accommodate more than 100 people.

The menu includes the Summit Stir Fry Station, Santa Maria barbecue, grilled specialties, salads, a bar and panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The restaurant is open daily.
