Grilled hawk

Ken Ball was driving along Glenshire Drive near Olympic Heights on Tuesday when a hawk swooped in front of his Chevy pickup truck, lodging itself in the grill. Ball drove to the downtown Truckee Texaco parking lot where he called police. Officers responded along with animal control personnel.

A public works employee later helped extricate the hawk from Ball’s truck by dismantling the grill. The procedure took about an hour. The hawk, though a bit in shock, survived the accident.
