Grimm’s attorney asks to postpone sentencing

Staff reports

The lawyer for Steven Grimm has filed a motion to continue the convicted embezzler’s restitution hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Nevada County Superior Court Truckee division.

The court will likely allow the continuation because Grimm’s sentence includes prison time, said deputy clerk Helen Davis.

Last month Grimm entered a no-contest plea to stealing more than $300,000 from the Donner Summit Public Utility District while he was general manager at the public agency. The Norden resident could face a maximum four-year prison sentence and a two-year enhancement. As a condition of his plea, Grimm will also pay $384,000 restitution to the utility district.

The date of Grimm’s sentencing hearing will be announced later this week.
