Group seeks input on bike race road closures

Sierra Sun staff reports

Proposed road closures and other activities related to a professional bicycle race in June will be the topic of a community forum in Tahoe City.

North Shore groups will hold the forum on June 6, 5:30 p.m., in the Tahoe City Public Utility District board room to discuss the Tour de Nez bike race event in Tahoe City on June 23. The Tahoe Road Race and related activities are part of the overall three-day festival that takes place in Reno, Truckee and North Lake Tahoe.

The road race start-finish line will be near the arched entrance to Commons Beach in the middle of Tahoe City.

Officials are seeking input on temporary lane closure options on Highway 28 in Tahoe City and the possible use of Fairway Drive-Grove Street as an alternate route for approximately 45 minutes. Specific proposals include closing both lanes of Highway 28 in Tahoe City for approximately 30 minutes at the end of the Tahoe Road Race, from 4:25 to 4:55 p.m.

Those unable to attend the forum should e-mail kathleen@puretahoenorth.com or call 581-8734.
