Health | Dr. Matthew Gustafsson opens pediatric dentistry office
November 13, 2008
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay is the most chronic disease among children age five to 17. Luckily for Truckee-Tahoe residents, pediatric dentist Matthew Gustafsson, D.D.S., aims to stem the tide of childhood dental decay at his new practice located at The Rock multi-use center in Truckee.
“We’ve all heard the horror stories from adults who had bad dentistry experiences in their youth,” notes Dr. Gustafsson. “Our goal is to start the kids early so they become accustomed to the dentist office environment. We strive to have a kid-friendly atmosphere here so when they are older they won’t have a negative feeling associated with dentistry and they will continue to visit the dentist and maintain good dental health.”
Dr. Gustafsson is the only accredited pediatric dentist in the Truckee-Tahoe region. He is a dental specialist who has completed an American Dental Association accredited advanced post-doctoral course of at least two academic years in the pediatric dentistry specialty.
Gustafsson suggests a child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around his/her first birthday.
“A comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits,” Gustafsson notes. “Besides discussing issues with the child, we also help to educate the parents and tell them what to expect in the coming months of development.”
As the “new dentist in town,” Gustafsson encourages prospective patients and their parents to drop in and check out the kid-friendly surroundings, complete with video games. For more information, call 550-9311 or visit http://www.truckeepediatricdentistry.com.
