Hearing postponed for suspected embezzler

Nevada County Superior Court postponed the preliminary hearing of embezzlement suspect and former Donner Summit Public Utility District General Manager Steven Grimm Tuesday morning.

Grimm’s criminal attorney, Dale Wood, filed a motion to continue after the Nevada County District Attorney’s office sent him 384 pages of findings about the investigation on Aug. 21, five days before Tuesday’s preliminary hearing. Wood told the court he wouldn’t have ample time to review the material.

Wood had no comment for the Sierra Sun.

Authorities say Grimm stole more than $500,000 between 2000 and 2002 from the Donner Summit Public Utility District while he was general manager at the agency. Grimm has been charged with three counts of embezzling public funds and one count of credit card fraud.

Last month authorities searched Grimm’s Norden and Doyle, Calif., homes and confiscated seven years’ worth of documents and computer equipment.

Grimm’s preliminary hearing has been postponed to Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. in the Nevada County Superior Court Truckee division. Attorneys will hold a felony conference on Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
