Hearings set for arson suspects

Two Kings Beach men, charged with conspiracy to commit arson, will have a preliminary hearing on Monday at the Tahoe division of the Placer County Superior Court in Tahoe City.

According to District Attorney Christopher Cattran, the suspects will enter their pleas and the judge will indicate possible sentences.

Also during the conference, the district attorney may offer any deals that are to be considered.

Investigators believe that Kevin F. O’Connor, 39, and Gregory Doble, 35, intentionally staged a burglary and set fire to O’Connor’s business, The Lakeside Overhead Door Company, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Doble suffered second-degree burns during the Feb. 8 incident when he was trapped inside the burning building.

The two men were arrested at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento when O’Connor arrived to pick up Doble, who was being released from the center. If convicted, each man could face 14 years of prison time.

So that he could better attend to his medical needs, Doble was released on his own recognizance shortly after the incident.

O’Connor was held in Auburn at the Placer County Jail until he was released in March after posting $50,000 bail.
