Help needed with food distribution

Last year, the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation distributed more than 20,000 pounds of food to more than 200 local families.

This year’s food drive kicks off Saturday and the congregation is looking for volunteers to help organize the food packages at noon on Sunday at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach.

“Many North Shore families on the low end of the economic scale are hurting at this particular time,” said coordinator Jeff Corpuel in a news release. “Hunger exists in the Tahoe Basin.”

While volunteers will prepare for the event Saturday, the sixth annual Holiday Food and Clothing Project will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the following week on Saturday, Dec. 22 at the North Tahoe Conference Center.

Anyone wishing to donate winter clothing should drop items off at the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation in Tahoe Vista. Monetary donations to help purchase the food are accepted.

For more information, call Jeff Corpuel at (775) 831-5513.
