TAHOE CITY, Calif. – Gatekeeper’s Museum announced the continued revival and seasonal opening of the beloved Nature Trail located on the museum grounds in Tahoe City. Open now through October 2026, this free community attraction offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore Tahoe’s natural beauty through art, storytelling, and environmental education.

Although the Nature Trail has quietly existed for more than 20 years, it remains one of Tahoe City’s little-known hidden gems. Over the last several years, the trail has been thoughtfully revitalized thanks to the creativity, dedication, and talent of Gatekeeper’s Museum team member Nancy Taft. Nancy has hand-painted more than 23 forest animals throughout the trail, each brought to life with vibrant artistic details including poppies, daisies, tulips, and other native-inspired floral elements that add color and charm to the forest setting.

The trail also now features a new Walking Story Book, generously provided through the support of the Friends of the Tahoe City Library, allowing families and children to enjoy reading and nature together as they stroll the path.

Along the trail, visitors will discover educational stops highlighting native plants and their traditional Washoe names, offering an opportunity to learn about the cultural and environmental history of the Lake Tahoe region while immersed in the outdoors.

Perfect for families with young children, local residents, and visitors alike, the Nature Trail combines education, entertainment, and artistic beauty in a peaceful forest environment. Whether guests are looking for a gentle walk, an engaging outdoor activity for children, or a chance to learn more about Tahoe’s unique ecosystem, the Gatekeeper’s Museum Nature Trail offers something for everyone.

“The Nature Trail is truly a special place that reflects the beauty, creativity, and history of our community,” said Susan Winter, Museum Director. “We are excited to share this experience with locals and visitors and encourage everyone to come explore this free outdoor attraction.”

The Nature Trail is located on the grounds of the Gatekeeper’s Museum in Tahoe City and is free and open to the public now through October 2026. For more information about the museum and upcoming programs, visit http://www.gatekeepersmuseum.org
