High winds make big waves on Lake Tahoe

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a lake wind advisory for Lake Tahoe today.

The advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and affects the greater Tahoe area, including Truckee.

Southwest winds around 10 mph are expected to increase to 15 to 20 mph with gust to 30 mph.

The wind will create wave heights of two to three feet over the eastern side of Lake Tahoe, with waves up to four feet tall between Incline Village and Glenbrook.

Small boats will be prone to capsizing and should remain off the lake until early this evening.
