Highway 89 closures ahead
TAHOE CITY/TRUCKEE “-Highway 89 south will be closed intermittently starting today and going through Thursday.
The California Department of Transportation, Caltrans, is alerting motorists that starting today, Sept. 9, crews will be doing rock scaling on Highway 89 just north of Squaw Creek. The rock scaling is scheduled through Thursday.
The work is necessary in order to prevent rocks from falling onto the highway. Motorists can expect intermittent, full highway closures with delays of up to 30 minutes between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
Changeable message signs and highway advisory radios will alert motorists of the work and delays.
Motorists are advised to use State Route 267 as an alternate route.
