I-80 shooting victims identified

Two people killed in an apparent murder-suicide off of Interstate 80 last week have been identified.

The victims were identified as Eang Veth and Sokhann Him, both 23, of Stockton.

Just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the Truckee California Highway Patrol station received a cellular 911 call from a male subject stating he had just shot a woman and that he was stuck in the snow near Interstate 80 somewhere west of Truckee.

The units were unable to locate the vehicle until approximately 9:45 a.m. when a Pacific Gas and Electric employee reportedly spotted the subject’s truck stuck in the snow off of Drum Forebay Road adjacent to I-80, located about 35 miles east of Auburn.

“Responding units found two bodies in the vehicle and both were dead,” said Placer County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Rick Armstrong.

Evidence found at the scene led investigators to believe Veth shot and killed Him and then himself. Three suicide notes were found in the car along with a .380 caliber semi-automatic hand gun.
