An approaching frontal system and jet stream will bring increasing clouds and gusty southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts 40 mph by afternoon.
Highs today are forecast to reach the mid to upper 40s around the lake and in the mid 30s at the 8,000 foot resort level where winds gusting to over 60 mph are expected along the ridges by afternoon.
Light rain with snow above 6,500 feet will accompany the leading edge of the frontal band later this afternoon before turning to snow showers down to lake level by evening. Snow accumulations are forecast to be light ranging from 2 to 4 inches above 7,000 feet to an inch or less at lake level by Thursday morning. Lows tonight are projected to drop into the mid 20s under cloudy skies.
Partly cloudy and breezy conditions are forecast for Thursday with west to southwest winds 15 to 25 mph at lake level and gusts to 50 mph along the Sierra crest. Highs on Thursday are expected to reach to lower to mid 40s at lake level and the lower to mid 30s at 8,000 feet.
The jet stream is forecast to retreat further north on Friday and into the weekend promising dry weather with near seasonal temperatures.
