It’s official " again: SnowFest!

Snow Festival, the name used by North Tahoe’s winter festival for the past five years, has officially returned to its original name SnowFest! of North Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

The name change has come about in an effort to better represent the entire community that makes SnowFest! a winter favorite every year, according to organizers. For 27 years, SnowFest! has featured events at popular venues throughout North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, and by showcasing Tahoe’s incredible March weather.

SnowFest! made its first appearance in March of 1982 in an effort to show skiers that Tahoe’s legendary snowpack lasts well past the Presidents’ holiday. Over the years, SnowFest! has become successful and been named one of the Top 100 Events in the United States by the American Business Association as well as one of the Top 10 events in California by the California Department of Tourism.

SnowFest’s success can be attributed to the unique events that happen during the 10 day festival. The schedule of events this year include a torchlight parade, polar bear swim, ski races, bar parties, parades, a luau, theater productions, children’s exhibits, ice cream eating contests, and much more.

The dates for SnowFest! 2008 are February 29, 2008 through March 9, 2008. For more information on SnowFest! of North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, go to http://www.tahoesnowfestival.com, or contact Ruth Schnabel at 530-583-7167.
