Jailed suspect may be Truckee’s robber

A man arrested by the FBI on Oct. 11 for allegedly robbing a Bank of America in the Reno/Sparks area may be the same man who robbed a Bank of the West in Truckee, police said.

“We’re looking at similarities between the Reno case and our case to see if they are the same (man),” said Truckee Police Det. Don Garrett.

Police and FBI are currently analyzing similar evidence from the bank robberies and hope to make a connection, Garrett said.

“We’re still looking at property and things like that,” he said. “Right now, we can’t say with certainty if the subjects are the same.”

Bank of the West on Bridge Street in Truckee was robbed on Oct. 4 at around 9:50 a.m. by a man described by a teller as “an average guy, somewhat attractive, who appeared to be very comfortable.”

The man was described by police as an approximately 5′ 10″ and 200 pound Hispanic or “deeply tanned” Caucasian male.

The suspect is currently being held in Washoe County Jail. Police are withholding the suspect’s name until the FBI investigation is complete, Garrett said.
