CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. — To say this Friday will be a funky and fun night might be an understatement.

Melvin Seals and JGB, with special guests Afrolicious, will perform beginning at 9 p.m. at the Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room.

Melvin Seals and JGB reminds music-lovers that it’s members are dedicated “keepers of the flame” — the band pays tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band.

As the band’s biography goes, Seals in 1980 joined the Jerry Garcia Band as a keyboardist and remained a member until Garcia’s untimely death in 1995, after which, Seals took charge.

Under his leadership, the slightly renamed “Melvin Seals and JGB” pays tribute to the former Grateful Dead frontman by performing his songs and remaining faithful to his style.

During Garcia’s lifetime, the Jerry Garcia Band released one studio album, “Cats Under the Stars,” and one live album, “Jerry Garcia Band.” Several more live albums were released posthumously, with Seals at the helm.

Visit to learn more about the band and Friday night’s show.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $28 day of show; VIP booth seats are $45. Visit to learn more.
