KidZone’s cool classes in Truckee
The KidZone Museum offers a colorful palette of classes and exhibits. Activities are designed to engage the “minds, muscles and imaginations” of the children with interactive, multi-dimensional experiences. Read on for what’s happening:
Messy Explorations: Tuesdays, 10 to 11:30 a.m., ages 2 to 6 (parents must attend). This free program combines our popular Messy Art and Messy Science classes for two hours of creativity and wonder. Parents experience new discoveries with their child, get ideas for activities to do at home, and receive resources about child development.
Wonder Science: Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., ages 4 to 6 (parents need not attend), cost $150 per session, limit eight kids. Children will explore three open-ended science activities each week and experiment to their heart’s content.
Includes one hour of class, and time for lunch, play and pick up from Truckee Elementary. Session 4, Earth and Animals; children observe, handle and care for small animals like snails, worms and insects. Session 5, Wonder Science Favorites; children experiment with favorites such as bugs, tornado tubes and gak.
Art Workshop: Tuesdays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., ages 4 to 6 (parents need not attend), cost $150 per session, limit eight kids. Includes pick up from Truckee Elementary. Session 4, Puppet-making; children use natural materials such as clay, wire, cotton fabric, glass beads and wool to create lively and colorful puppets. Session 5, Eric Carle Collage; children learn techniques from paper-making to finished collage!
jExplora! (Formerly Club Amiguitos): Mondays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., ages 3 to 5 (parents need not attend). Together with the State Preschool, children will participate in messy art and science, playtime, music, movement and literature. The first hour is taught in Spanish and the second in English. This preschool program is sponsored by Nevada County School Readiness.
The current exhibit is Into Africa, which celebrates African culture and rural life. Our goal is to replicate and represent jungle and desert areas such as the Congo and Serengeti regions.
No classes will be held while the KidZone is closed to install the new Farm exhibit May 2 to 11. KidZone Museum is located at 11711 Donner Pass Road, Truckee. Visit kidzonemuseum.org for information or call 587-KIDS (5437).
