Kings Beach group suing over commercial core

Sun staff report

A Kings Beach group has filed suit over the commercial core project.

The Kings Beach Business and Citizens Alliance, which supports the four-lane and traffic light alternative for Highway 28 through Kings Beach, is suing Placer County for the recent board of supervisor’s decision in favor of three lanes and roundabouts.

In a press release, the group states the suit alleges errors in the environmental review process.

The group contends the four-lane alternative would allow sidewalks, water quality improvements, and enhance aesthetics without adding traffic congestion and cut-through traffic in neighborhoods.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Advisory Planning Commission and Placer County Planning Commission approved the three-lane alternative earlier in the year, but it was then rejected by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Board.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors then approved the three-lane alternative, and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Board voted to reconsider their vote.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency board is expected to vote on the project at a future meeting.
