Lake Tahoe Marathon: Road closures on the West Shore to occur Sunday

LAKE TAHOE and#8212; Motorists will encounter road delays and a closure in Highway 89 on Sunday, Sept. 26, in connection with the Lake Tahoe Marathon.

Residents and visitors on the West Shore attempting to travel north should plan to arrive in Tahoe City before 7:30 a.m. or wait until after 10 a.m. as traffic will be stopped at many West Shore neighborhoods for marathon participants.

The marathon begins in Tahoe City at 8 a.m. and the road typically opens behind the participants at a rate of 11 minutes per mile. In South Lake Tahoe, Highway 89 northbound traffic will be closed three miles north of Camp Richardson at Spring Creek Road from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake Road will remain open at all times. Highway 89 southbound traffic will be open; however, motorists will be subject to 30 to 45-minute delays.
