LAKE TAHOE and#8212; A treacherous forecast of snow and rain has prompted officials to issue winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Reno issued the advisory today at 6 a.m. when meteorologists detected a storm front moving across Lassen County toward the Tahoe Basin.

Snow accumulation is estimated to be between 4 and 8 inches, with temperatures dropping into the mid 20s and wind speeds touching 25 miles per hour. Above 7,000 feet, 9 to 13 inches of snow is forecast.

NWS is advises drivers crossing the Sierra passes such as Donner and Echo summits to expect delays, chain restrictions and slower speeds. Warnings also have been given to motorists traveling over bridges and overpasses, as snow will first begin accumulating there first.

Below is an extended NWS forecast for this week.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind between 10 and 15 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
