Laker volleyball wins consecutive 2A matches

A well-played and intense match with rival Truckee last week provided a welcome spark for the North Tahoe High volleyball team.

After putting to the test the 3A Wolverines in a four-game match Wednesday, the Lakers breezed past Northern 2A opponents Lovelock and Battle Mountain on the road Friday and Saturday.

“The match against Truckee gave us a good kick-start and a feeling as to how good of a team we are,” said Tom LeFevers, head coach of the Lakers.



North Tahoe took down both opponents in three games, defeating Lovelock 25-22, 25-13, 25-19, and Battle Mountain 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 to improve to 4-2 in league play.

Senior Laura Hansen led the Lakers with 11 kills and one block against Lovelock. She was followed by junior Kayla Baumgardner, who had seven kills, one ace and one block, and Haley Burmer, who had five kills, two aces and one block.



Kelly Hester tallied 26 assists along with one block.

The following day at Battle Mountain Hansen tallied 14 kills, one ace, one assist and six blocks. Baumgardner put down seven kills, two assists and four blocks.

Shirley Murray had five kills while Hester again put up 26 assists.
