Letter to the Ediitor: Make your voice heard at Canyon Springs meeting

The town of Truckee will be releasing the Draft Environmental Impact report for the proposed Canyon Springs housing development next week. There will be a town meeting this Tuesday, December 18, at 6 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss how to review and respond to the environmental document.

I strongly encourage all citizens to attend this meeting and become involved with the review process. While many believe that Canyon Springs will only impact those who live and recreate in the Glenshire area, the possible impacts from a development of this scale could affect the entire character of this community.

A sprawling housing development of 200+ units on the eastern boundary of Truckee will set the stage for the future of this region. Our neighbor to the east, Nevada County, contains hundreds of acres of private land slated for housing and commercial development extending from Martis Peak Road to Hirschdale.

Increased traffic along Glenshire Drive will impact Olympic Heights and the already congested intersection of Glenshire Drive and Donner Pass Road. Many of us were not around during the town’s incorporation, the last time this land was discussed for appropriate zoning.

If we, the citizens of Truckee, feel that the proposed development is at odds with the community character we hold dear to our hearts, we must advocate for a proposal that better suits our vision. Please join me next Tuesday at Town Hall.
