Letter to the Editor: America’s most dangerous bike ride

To all the riders who participated in the bike tour on Sunday, June 6, and showed consideration for the locals who were commuting to work on that day, I say “thank you for sharing.” However, for the majority of the riders in this annual debacle, I ask that they try this in their own home town. Do it on a road that offers no side routes and thus can’t be avoided. Do it with large numbers of riders who feel that traffic can wait for them. And, by all means, encourage riders with very limited abilities to ride on the most precarious of avenues. What? You wouldn’t want to impose on your own neighbors, but feel it acceptable to do it here. We have dozens of races that take place around here every year, so why is this the only one which leaves the locals bitter evey year?
