Letter to the Editor: Billy Dutton would have been proud with Sundayand#8217;s turnout
On Sunday April 11th, 154 people skied, snowshoed or ran from the bottom of Squaw Valley to High Camp in the annual Billy Dutton Uphill race. This is the biggest turnout in the eventand#8217;s two decades of remembering Squaw Valley athlete Billy Dutton. Strong winds and cool temperatures did not deter the enthusiastic athletes who made the 2,000-foot climb all on their own power.
The race has long-been a major fundraiser for the Far West Junior Nordic Ski Team and this yearand#8217;s race raised more than $4,000 dollars to support young Nordic racers competing in the Junior Olympic Championships.
All of the Far West juniors would like to say a huge thank you to Betty Dutton Walsh and her family and the Rassuchine family for putting on this great fundraiser! Additionally, thanks to Squaw Valley for its continued support and to all of the sponsors and volunteers for making this such a great event.
I think Billy would be proud to see so many people working their way up the mountain raising money for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who participated!
