Letter to the Editor: County government doesnand#8217;t belong in middle of our commercial core

While Placer Countyand#8217;s option to purchase the Customs House building in Tahoe City has the positive benefit of bringing increased occupancy to a nearly empty new building, county government doesnand#8217;t belong in the middle of our commercial core. The use of the building in this way represents a large government presence and maybe a parking problem and#8212; especially if county vehicles are permanently parked around the building on weekends.

But we also need to support the countyand#8217;s needs for a functional facility. My preference is that the county fast-track a renovation of the Burton Creek facility or one of the other long-term alternatives mentioned in the article last week. I encourage taxpayers of Placer County to freely comment on the countyand#8217;s plan, regardless of their viewpoint.
