Letter to the Editor: Don’t like taxes? Get used to less service, then

Recently, while waiting at the Truckee court, I could not help but observe the hostility directed toward the court clerks by several different people waiting for their cases.

Understandably, there is reason to be upset about having to take off work to take care of a court problem. These days, however, all the various counties, districts and state departments are facing significant budget cuts. The fact is there are fewer clerks at court working fewer hours because we have decided we do not like paying taxes. Our schools are having similar problems, again because we have chosen to cut our taxes. I could go on.

All the anger expressed to the court clerks was misplaced in my view. If we are not willing to support our courts, our schools, roads, and the infrastructure we depend on with taxes, it should not be any surprise when things fall apart. We get what we pay for after all. Get used to it.
