Letter to the Editor: During a tough time for Truckee, letand#8217;s stop and give extra thanks

If the events of the past few months donand#8217;t make you stop, hug your loved ones and tell them how very much you love them, Iand#8217;m not sure what will.

I donand#8217;t know/have never met 6 of the 7 Truckee locals who have died recently, but I find my heart aching when I think of any of them. Iand#8217;m filled with even more sadness envisioning the painful journey their friends and family are taking as they try to continue their lives and cope. Each of these was a life cut far too short.

Itand#8217;d sure be nice if life got somewhat back on kilter. Between world tragedies like the New Zealand and Japan earthquakes, Libya, a ceaselessly struggling economy, gas prices soaring, home values declining and on and on, these are anything but easy times.

This too shall pass. However, in the meantime, we should give extra thanks for the friends and family we have, our precious time on this earth and being part of such a wonderful, kind, compassionate community.

In most places such losses would be blips on the 5 oand#8217;clock news and#8212; here, these are friends, family, neighbors, community members, classmates and even strangers who will be dearly missed.
