Letter to the Editor: Flower sculptures at roundabout not suited for Truckee
November 18, 2010
I think I speak for many when I say that I feel as though the town of Truckee made a huge mistake with the sculpture in the roundabout in front of the Rec Center.
I donand#8217;t want to put the sculptor down, but I feel the town of Truckee had a responsibility to ask the sculptor to create something that has some significance to our mountain town. $15,000 of taxpayer money went into mounting the sculpture, but I and many others feel as though this piece of art (while it may be nice somewhere else) is not something we as a community can relate to or identify with.
As my husband said, we would have been better off spending that money on something like a beautiful redwood tree or even a sculpture of Donner Peak or Chief Truckee.
I feel as though the artwork in our town should be representative of who we are as a community, and this sculpture better suits Disneyland than it does Truckee.
