Letter to the Editor: Grasshopper Soup a well-written column
The purpose of this letter is to commend and applaud Bob Sweigert on his masterfully crafted and highly skilled weekly column, Grasshopper Soup. Although I have a limited journalistic background of editing my college newspaper and working less than five years for a small local paper, I can with some competence favorably acknowledge Sweigertand#8217;s writings. His excellent use of imagery coupled with his appropriate and clever application of metaphors and unique evaluations encourage me to actively pursue his column on a weekly basis.
I live in a small central California town and happened to come across something called and#8220;Grasshopper Soupand#8221; while at the computer one day. I find that his perspective on everything from rodeo (Anti-rodeo bias ignores nature and choice 6-28-11) to as he once wrote, the and#8220;bottomless cornucopiaand#8221; of a childand#8217;s imagination (Playing by the river, 8-31-10) provide the reader with excellent sources of thought-provoking, yet enjoyable material.
The skill Sweigert exhibits in his well-written columns could quite possibly be given similar literary value to the skills displayed by such great novelists as Fitzgerald or Hemingway. Thank you, Sierra Sun for publishing Sweigert. If readership grew, Iand#8217;m sure your paper would receive many letters such as my own.
