Letter to the Editor: Lincoln Highway trail open for all to enjoy

I am writing today to acknowledge the wonderful good fortune of being able to hike the Lincoln Highway from the Donner Lake basin floor all the way to the Donner Summit.

As many of you might remember, public access to this historic trail was under siege for many years by the landowner through whose property a portion of the trail crossed. He has since sold this land to Truckee Donner Land Trust and it is now available for all to enjoy.

There were many difficult obstacles to surmount in reaching this happy conclusion, and I just want to thank, among others, the highly spirited and tireless efforts of Rick Martel and the Historic Donner Trail Committee to make this a reality.

Thank you so much for not giving in or giving up. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to you all.
