Letter to the Editor: Opposition to Regional Plan Update is very educated

In response to Mr. Mark Millerand#8217;s comments about and#8220;the letter by Roger Patching of and#8216;Friendsand#8217; of Lake Tahoe,and#8221; I believe it is important to point out that, as clarified in the introduction of my piece, the letter in question was jointly authored by eight organizations in the basin. It is not the work of a single individual, but of many.

Somehow, Mr. Miller missed this point and with it the accompanying fact that within those eight organizations resides a small army of scientists, local and national, who see things differently than he does. Those scientists simply see a vast divide between the claims and promises of TRPAand#8217;s and#8220;enlightened environmentalismand#8221; and the actual specific environmental and development/redevelopment provisions of the Regional Plan Update. There is a difference between rhetoric and substance, science and propaganda.

I do appreciate, however, and compliment him for taking the time to express his concerns.

Roger Patching

President/CEO, Friends of Lake Tahoe
