Letter to the Editor: Our police do great things, too
March 18, 2010
I just want to say thank you to the Town of Truckee Police Department. On Friday, March 12, in Tahoe Donner, there was a break in the water line on Northwoods Blvd. which required them to close the street. Unfortunately it resulted in a detour through my neighborhood.
After watching numerous cars speeding by at excessive speeds and a close call with one of my neighbors who was walking his dog, I felt compelled to call for a patrolman. The dispatcher was very nice and understood my concerns. She said she would send an extra patrolman and did. Russel, I believe his name was, was driving down my street within three minutes of my call. Thank you and#8212; I can see him just down the road as I write this.
Iand#8217;ve read many of the negative remarks about our local law enforcement agencies in the comment section of this newspaper, but please remember, they are an integral part of the reason why we enjoy such a high quality of life around here. Yes, at times, there does appear to be a lot of patrolmen around, but I would rather have them here than not. They are here for you, not just to bust you.
If you are experiencing the same problems in your neighborhood, donand#8217;t be afraid to call them. I donand#8217;t know if the program still exists, but if it does, join the and#8220;Neighborhood Pace Carand#8221; program. We have one of the most beautiful commutes in the world, there is no reason to drive like a bat out of hell and#8212; slow down and enjoy it.
