Letter to the Editor: Please protect our cemetery from vandalism

This year has seen numerous events of vandalism in cemeteries in California. To avoid having that happen here at the Sierra Mountain Cemetery, the Truckee Cemetery District has established a new gate closure schedule. The pedestrian gate, or personnel gate, will be locked each day at 5 p.m. The main gates will close at dusk, activated by a light sensor.

If you are visiting the cemetery later in the day and the main gates have closed before you leave, they will open automatically, activated by the motion of your car when you approach. Thank you for helping us to protect and preserve this sacred resting place.
