Letter to the Editor: Please respect the cemetery

The Sierra Mountain Cemetery (aka Truckee Cemetery) is open to foot traffic throughout the winter, but the gates are closed to vehicles even when we have not had recent snow. Because of the erratic nature of snowfall throughout the winter, the policy is that the gates stay closed until the spring.

In the last several weeks, someone wanting to visit the cemetery damaged the gate-opening mechanism trying to force open the closed gates by driving into them by applying pressure with their car.

Please respect the cemetery and plan to visit by entering via the personnel gate that is open.

Trustee, Truckee Cemetery District
