Letter to the Editor: Reflecting on a choice for education
I am writing after attending the TTUSD transportation meeting held Nov. 16 to hear public opinion regarding next yearand#8217;s potential cuts to school transportation services vs. increased fees for maintaining current services. I very much appreciate the opportunity the district transportation department afforded us in offering our suggestions.
More importantly, I am writing regarding a topic that many parents in attendance mentioned: School choice.
While many people locally do not remember when school choice did not exist in our district and#8212; or worse, when it was reviled and#8212; I believe there are others who do remember, and who helped forge the way for those in our community who today can openly speak of their gratitude for choices in education.
I am writing in thanks to all the students, parents, teachers and administrators who 13 years ago built Prosser Creek Charter School, heart and soul, because our community needed something that better fit our children.
After attending the district transportation meeting the other night, I realize that what the Prosser Creek Charter School community suffered, though difficult, was worth it: Prosser Creek did bring change to our district. Students, parents and educators do have a choice, and can openly speak of it, and Prosser Creek paved the way.
To all those Prosser Creek pioneers near and far, I hope you know you made a difference, a huge difference. And our community is grateful for it. Thank you.
