Letter to the Editor: Sweigert is not condoning art theft
This letter is in response to Mr. Godonand#8217;s letter regarding Bob Sweigertand#8217;s and#8220;Beauty is in the eye of the art thiefand#8221; Grasshopper Soup column.
Oh my gosh Mr. Godon! Apparently you are not a regular reader of Grasshopper Soup. While Mr. Sweigert did express his less-than-enamored view of the stolen art, I am pretty confident that he is not seriously condoning art theft or crime of any kind.
Have you ever heard of and#8220;tongue in cheekand#8221; humor? A touch of sarcastic, sardonic, and#8220;poking fun at the ironyand#8221; humor is what his column generally is about. I certainly know by now how to take it in the spirit intended (with a grain of salt).
Are we really so intensely paranoid and overly sensitive now as to call for the cancellation of his column? While criticizing Ms. Seskoand#8217;s art, or at the least the effect it had on the view of the lake, may have been a touch rude, free speech is still alive and well.
