Letter to the Editor: Thanking Chief Bryce Keller

I would personally like to thank Truckee Fire Chief Bryce Keller for his many years of service to the Town of Truckee and the Tahoe-Truckee region. Throughout the years, from his service as CalFire Battalion Chief to his service as North Tahoe Fire Division Chief and then in service as Truckee Fire Chief, Bryce Keller was a great community leader who always had the best interests of the Truckee-Tahoe community at heart. This community will always be indebted to Mr. Keller for his instrumental role in restoring the Martis Peak fire lookout, one of the regionand#8217;s most essential tools in combating wildfire, and for the improvements to services for which Mr. Keller is responsible, including expansion of the Glenshire Fire Station and the new fire station to be located just off Interstate 80 near downtown Truckee.

I would also like to thank Chief Keller for the time he took and the effort he made in bringing Truckee Fire Protection District out of its historically insulated, almost secret-society status in Truckee through his tremendous community outreach, especially through his regularly submitted articles to the Sierra Sun.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mr. Kellerand#8217;s family for the sacrifices they have made over the years while Chief Keller served our community and other communities throughout the west. While Chief Keller was sometimes gone for weeks and months at a time and#8212; a lifestyle almost incompatible with maintaining relationships and family and#8212; somehow the Keller family held it together. To all of you, thank you for your exemplary leadership and participation in our community, from my family to yours.
