Letter to the Editor: Thanks for the amazing support

We are so thankful for our community.

Last Tuesday, August 2nd, Mateja Lane, daughter of Alenka Vrecek and Tom Lane, all of Tahoe City, was involved in an automobile accident on Highway 89 between Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley. Unfortunately, Mateja suffered multiple injuries and was taken by Care Flight to Reno. This week has been a roller coaster, but Mateja is a tough woman and has been moved out of Intensive Care and will be leaving the hospital soon.

The entire Lane and Granger families would like to thank the many, many friends who have been there for all of us and offered their support and help these past few days. It has been a long week, but with positive results for Mateja. The strength we have gotten from our community has helped us all and we are thankful for all of you. We are lucky to live in a place with this outpouring of support and encouragement.

We especially want to express our thanks and gratitude for all the medical response teams from Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Tahoe City and Truckee fire departments, as well as the California Highway Patrol and Care Flight (Greg Abi-Nader and Brian) for their care and help getting Mateja to Reno.

Our hearts go out especially to Lakeside Paving employee, Bruce Cutler, who was one of the first on the scene and who stayed with Mateja and held her hand and talked to her until medical help arrived. His constant vigilance was unbelievable and helped so very much. His selflessness, care and concern are insurmountable and he is to be recognized. He will always be in our hearts.

Each day we are seeing improvements for Mateja. Please follow her recovery progress on Facebook/Alenka Vrecek.

With appreciation,

Alenka Vrecek and family
