Letter to the Editor: Three lanes are good for Kings Beach

This is a definite andamp;#8220;yesandamp;#8221; vote for the three-lane option through Kings Beach, and I donandamp;#8217;t understand why anyone would object to it. Kings Beach is a small community, and a four-lane highway through the core makes no sense. As a driver having to make a left-hand turn out of one of the businesses, I have three ways of getting hit.As a walker trying to cross, I have to check on two lanes of traffic, dash to the middle and then check traffic from the other direction andamp;#8212; pretty scary. Ditto for road bikers. A center turning lane gives you a small breathing space and a chance to check both directions before proceeding on your chosen route. The claim that traffic will cut through the neighborhoods is utter nonsense. I have done it several times in order to check it out and found no evidence of increased traffic. Drivers donandamp;#8217;t particularly like the short blocks and multiple stop signs. What I did find, besides some new speed bumps, was a teeny roundabout, barely wide enough for an SUV to get around. I can just see a plow shredding it to bits come winter. This is money wasted on a non-existent problem.By slowing traffic through town, maybe people will look up and see our lovely beach and decide to stay a while and check out the little shops along the way.For your info: I live in Kingswood Estates but volunteer in Kings Beach once a week. My husband and I used to own two businesses in Kings Beach; we are now retired and bike a lot.Helga SableTahoe Vista
