Letter to the Editor: Truckee July 4 parade was terrific, patriotic

In response to Starr Popplewelland#8217;s commentary on the Truckee July 4 parade, I would advise Ms Popplewell to check her calendar and GPS. It is not New Yearand#8217;s Day and you are not in Pasadena.

The Truckee Fourth of July Parade is a traditional and#8220;small townand#8221; parade featuring many of the people and agencies that service this area throughout the year. Since almost every entry proudly displayed red, white and blue themes and many American flags, I am not sure what Popplewell considers and#8220;patriotic,and#8221; but the entries all supported the and#8220;Spirit of the Sierraand#8221; theme; a tribute to the town of Truckee and the surrounding areas.

As a participant in the parade, I saw nothing but smiling and waving folks having a great time as the parade moved through town. I might suggest that Ms. Popplewell join one of the groups of volunteers that organize the parade and invest some time and energy in making next yearand#8217;s parade more to her liking.
