Letter to the Editor: Truckee needs bear box ordinance

Re: and#8220;Lake Tahoe residents upset with latest black bear killingand#8221; (Sierra Sun 7/6/2012).

What will it take for the Town of Truckee to enact a bear box ordinance? We have frequently seen bears in our Donner Lake neighborhood during daylight and around people. One bear was in our next door neighborand#8217;s kitchen. Another ripped a wooden outside pantry door off the wall of our other neighbor, who leaves his garbage in bags by the side of the road (West Reed).

Animals, including bears, have repeatedly scattered garbage along the road. Dumpsters at a neighboring condo complex are left open, with animals repeatedly getting into the garbage. To date no bear has been killed and no one injured, but it is just a matter of time.
