Letter to the Editor: We must take responsibility

Thank you Jim Sajdak for stating the issues and solutions about the bear situation so eloquently in your article. I am a resident of Alpine Meadows and I am furious about the senseless killing of Butterscotch the bear. She has been hanging out next door to me in a partially collapsed house since she came out of hibernation in March/April and I have never had a problem with her. However, on Monday, I had an attempted bear break in. Maybe Fish andamp; Game can work with the sheriffandamp;#8217;s department, because when my house was burglarized and vandalized by humans, nothing was done. There was no real assessment of damage, no tracking of criminals, let alone swift andamp;#8220;justice.andamp;#8221;Why is it that it only takes one person to get a permit to kill? Why isnandamp;#8217;t there a community meeting about the problem bear? Why isnandamp;#8217;t the homeownerandamp;#8217;s address listed as public information?Ann Bryant and her supporters can only do so much andamp;#8212; we as residents living in a wilderness area must take responsibility to make our houses less bear attractive and accessible, just as if we lived in a high fire area.Dina MorrisonAlpine Meadows
