Letter to the Editor: We support overall direction of Regional Plan Update, Alt. 3
We would like to submit a response to the incorrect headline on sierrasun.com on June 18, andamp;#8220;North, South Tahoe chambers of commerce endorse Regional Plan Update as part of new joint venture.andamp;#8221;The North Tahoe Resort Association/Chamber and TahoeChamber.org in South Lake Tahoe do support public participation in the Regional Plan Update process as well as the Regional Transportation Plan process but are not, at this point, wholly endorsing the Regional Plan Update as presented, but rather we have submitted specific comments to the TRPA Governing Board related to Alternative 3.The two chambers support (not endorse) the overall direction and following aspects of the draft plans:1) Environmental redevelopment focus.2) Focus on water quality improvements.3) Focus on bike and pedestrian friendly, town-center redevelopment models.4) Alignment with the Lake Tahoe Basin Prosperity Plan to execute specific strategies to revitalize the region’s economy. We recognize the importance of community engagement as the proposed Alternatives are refined in the coming months. Our two organizations, with more than 1,000 members around Lake Tahoe, are committed to being an active part of the process by leading the effort to get more community members and local residents involved in this process over the next few months. It is also important to andamp;#8220;registerandamp;#8221; additional areas for research leading up to the recommended four year review process. Thus, we encourage everyone to join us by signing up today at http://www.tahoefuture.org to learn more and get involved in the Regional Plan Update and Regional Transportation Plans.Betty andamp;#8220;Bandamp;#8221; Gorman, TahoeChamber.orgSandy Evans Hall, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association andamp; Chamber
