Library Loop: Longtime librarian retires
After 18 years of service to the North Tahoe area, Tahoe Librarian Anne Greenwood has retired. Greenwood’s career with the Placer County Library began in 2006 at the Tahoe City Library where she worked for five years before becoming the branch manager of the King’s Beach Library. After 10 years in that position, Anne was promoted to the position of Tahoe Librarian in charge of managing both the King’s Beach and Tahoe City branches.
As a founding member of the Tahoe Library Coalition, Greenwood was instrumental in bringing librarians from the North Lake libraries together to better strengthen their bond, share ideas, and find ways to best serve all library patrons in the North Tahoe communities. Library Loop articles, such as this one, featured in the Sierra Sun and Tahoe Daily Tribune are examples of the work of the coalition in that North Lake Tahoe librarians contribute to the content on a regular basis.
The Tahoe area native obtained her master’s in library and information science from San Jose State University and set out to change the perception of local libraries as a place for quiet reading to a community center approach that hosts art displays, technology workshops, and encouraged interactive children’s programming and visit from local schools.
“It’s been such a joy and privilege to be a part of these communities and to promote literacy and all of the incredible resources libraries provide,” said Greenwood. “I will miss our incredible staff, our wonderful patrons, and this immensely satisfying job that helps so many people on a fundamental level.”
