Lindner pleads innocent to attempted assault charges

The Ross, Calif., man accused in the hit-and-run death of Truckee resident Keith Stewart, 19, entered an innocent plea in response to allegations of attempted sexual assault charges against two teens.

The defendant, 18-year-old Scott Lindner, was not present for the arraignment on Tuesday in Nevada County Superior Court. His attorney, John Ward of Tahoe City, entered the plea.

Lindner will be tried on suspicion of attempt to commit a felony sex offense, false imprisonment, attempted oral copulation, intimidation of a victim, battery and annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18. The alleged victims have been identified as a 17-year-old Truckee girl and the other a 13-year-old girl.

The attempted sexual assault case information was filed and a felony conference is scheduled for Oct. 3, Ward said.

Investigators learned of the sexual assault allegations while investigating the hit-and-run collision that killed Stewart at Truckee River Regional Park on Aug. 16.

The hit-and-run death case is awaiting Lindner’s toxicology report, with results expected in the next few weeks, said William Cornell, Nevada County Deputy District Attorney.
