Lindsey Vonn ties Rahlves, Street with nine DH wins

SESTRIERE, Italy ” Lindsey Vonn of Vail, Colo., tied childhood idol Picabo Street and Truckee’s Daron Rahlves for the most downhill wins by an American racer with a victory on the 2006 Olympic men’s speed track on Saturday. Each has nine DH wins, although Rahlves also had three super G wins in his career.
Vonn also fattened her lead in the downhill standings and claimed the World Cup overall points lead with the win. On Sunday, however, she slid into a tie in the overall lead with Austrian Nicole Hosp after finishing 16th and Hosp 14th in a super G.
Julia Mancuso of Olympic Valley led the American women in Sunday’s super G, finishing eighth with a time of 1:21.90. Fabienne Suter of Switzerland and Andrea Fischbacher Austria tied for the win, posting times of 1:21.06. Truckee’s Stacey Cook was 24th in 1:23.05.
In Saturday’s downhill ” in which Vonn won with a time of 1:38.86 ” Mancuso finished 22nd in 1:40.87 and Cook 31st in 1:41.27.
For Vonn, the win marked her fifth of the season and 12th of her career.
The women have a slalom Friday in Zagreb, Croatia, before heading to Whistler Mountain to race on the 2010 Olympic course Feb. 22-24.
